Firm makes significant addition with Former Coca-Cola Counsel Atlanta (April 4 ,2016) – Lawrence & Bundy LLC announced today that John Lewis, Jr., former Senior Managing Counsel at The Coca-Cola Company, has joined the firm as partner. Mr. Lewis joins partners and founders Allegra Lawrence-Hardy and Thomas Bundy and a group of Sutherland Asbill lawyers who joined Lawrence & Bundy shortly after its launch in February. During his 14-year career at Coca-Cola, Mr. Lewis has held roles of increasing responsibility, having led the company’s global litigation team, directed the company’s compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and related anti-corruption laws and regulations around the world. He most recently led the company’s global diversity and workplace fairness function, ensuring company compliance with EEOC and US Labor Department regulations. In his global roles, he successfully managed the company’s litigation, investigations and anti-bribery compliance across the 200-plus countries where the company does business. “We are thrilled to have John’s deep experience across a wide range of litigation and compliance issues joining our firm,” Allegra Lawrence-Hardy said. “His stellar reputation, international experience and unparalleled understanding of how outside counsel can partner smoothly with in-house counsel will increase our ability to provide agile client service.” Mr. Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and his J.D. from George Washington University. Prior to joining Coca-Cola, Mr. Lewis was in private law practice for over 10 years with firms in Kansas City and Atlanta. “Joining Lawrence & Bundy provides a platform for me to leverage my passion, interest and experience in the institutional practice of law with my entrepreneurial spirit. I am grateful for all of the rich opportunities the company afforded me to practice across over 30 of the countries where it does business,” Mr. Lewis said. “I am eager to partner with Allegra, Thomas and the firm to expand its geographic reach and grow its client base.” “We formed Lawrence & Bundy because we saw a need for a firm that has the capacity to handle the more complex matters that are a stretch for some smaller firms and that is agile enough to meet our clients’ expectations for creative, innovative approaches and active fee management,” Ms. Lawrence-Hardy noted. “At Coca-Cola,” she said, “John successfully led and partnered with outside counsel on intellectually challenging and complex cases. Across nearly every area of business-related litigation, he has a unique breadth of experience and exposure, including managing multi-jurisdictional matters, internal and governmental investigations, international disputes and class action litigation. “In addition,” she continued, “viewing litigation through the lens of the client, John has developed a keen appreciation of the importance of all aspects of client service to the business goals of a corporation.” At Coca-Cola, Mr. Lewis’ practice encompassed broad-based litigation and litigation avoidance/counseling, handling issues of corporate governance, securities, shareholder derivative, products liability, labeling, advertising, consumer class action, regulatory, government investigations, intellectual property, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, trade sanctions, bankruptcy/creditors rights, employee relations and compliance. Mr. Lewis is currently on the boards of the Private Bank of Buckhead and National Black MBA Association. He has served as the Chair of the City of Atlanta Ethics Board and was previously on the boards of The Coca-Cola Corporate Diversity Advisory Council, The Coca-Cola Company Family Federal Credit Union, The Coca-Cola Company Political Action Committee, The George Washington University Law Alumni Association and the National Bar Association. He is a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2012.
