We are passionate, resilient and intuitive.

Lawrence & Bundy attorneys have navigated the fluid regulations and challenges of political campaigns with flexibility and a tireless approach to innovative problem-solving.  Our team is exceedingly effective in anticipating and mitigating barriers to success while advising clients on complex, high-profile election and political law issues.  Representative examples of our experience include:

  • Represented voting rights organization and faith-based entities, totaling over 500 plaintiffs, in a lawsuit bringing constitutional and statutory claims against the State of Georgia in the first voting rights lawsuit to go to trial in the Northern District of Georgia in over ten years. Defeated defendants’ motion for summary judgment in one of the first applications of Brnovich v. Democratic Nat'l Comm., 141 S. Ct. 2321 (2021) within the summary judgment context in the country.

  • Represented presidential candidate Al Gore before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Bush v. Gore.

  • Represented congressional candidate Jack Davis in challenging the constitutionality of a federal election law provision known as the “Millionaires’ Amendment.”  Appealed and successfully argued case before the United States Supreme Court, resulting in a decision endorsing First Amendment argument and invalidating the statute.

  • Represented the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), a national whistleblower organization, before a federal criminal grand jury, in congressional proceedings and in two federal civil jury trials.  After a successful appeal and a second trial resulted in a hung jury, the Department of Justice abandoned its prosecution.

  • Represented Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States Government Reform Committee investigation into use of performance enhancing drugs.  Co-authored extensive legal correspondence addressing the Committee’s inquiry and served as co-counsel for senior MLB officials, including Commissioner Bud Selig, during nationally televised hearings.

  • Drafted a comprehensive 180+ page report that was submitted to the United States House and Senate Judiciary Committees regarding the history of voting rights in the state of Georgia in support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The report was referenced by several congressional members and witnesses in support of the Act.

  • Successfully argued in federal court to obtain an extension for voters in Dougherty County to submit absentee ballots in the Georgia Governor’s election of 2018 after a hurricane delayed mail and increased rejection rates of absentee ballots.

  • Served on the Biden for President recount team in Georgia to protect the integrity of the recount.

  • Represented Abrams for Governor and Democratic Party of Georgia, provided legal counsel regarding recounts and election contests, analyzed strategies to bolster voter turnout, ensured fair access to the ballot and accurate counting of votes.

  • Served as lead elections counsel for mayoral election with extremely tight margins.  Prepared municipal client for recount process including analysis of statutory landscape and development of strategy.

  • Counseled congressional candidate and successfully obtained advisory opinion from the Federal Election Commission regarding candidate eligibility and campaign finance issues.

  • Provided training and best practices to law enforcement and County Boards of Registration and Elections regarding voter safety and safety for election workers and officials.

  • Provided crisis management advice and counsel to voting rights nonprofits, political campaigns, political parties, and municipalities.
