Katie represents clients in complex employment disputes involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, restrictive covenant, trade secrets misappropriation, unfair competition, and leave-related issues arising under various federal and state laws, including Title VII, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Katie has represented clients in class and collective action litigation as well as single plaintiff and multi-plaintiff litigation in various federal and state courts. She also has experience managing investigations and enforcement proceedings conducted by federal and state administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
Katie also regularly counsels employers on a variety of employment issues, including drafting and instituting effective policies, practices and procedures, managing employee hiring, performance, discipline and discharge, providing reasonable accommodations, conducting reductions in force, and complying with federal and state anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, anti-retaliation, leave, and wage and hour laws. She also drafts employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and severance agreements and provides advice regarding contractual disputes arising out of these agreements. Katie has also conducted audits and internal investigations related to employer compliance with federal and state anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, anti-retaliation, wage and hour, employee classification, and equal pay laws and frequently provides training to business owners, managers, and human resources professionals on these topics.
Before joining Lawrence & Bundy, Katie practiced labor and employment law with the law firms, McGuireWoods, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, and Jones Day. Katie also previously worked as a mediator for the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, where she successfully mediated over 100 cases and led mediation skills training sessions for law students.
