Allegra Lawrence-Hardy and Thomas Bundy are proud to announce the formation of Lawrence & Bundy LLC, a litigation firm serving clients nationwide from offices in Atlanta and Washington, DC.
Most recently, Ms. Lawrence-Hardy co-headed Sutherland Asbill & Brennan’s Business and Commercial Litigation team and the firm’s Labor and Employment team, helping Fortune 500 clients navigate an array of complex commercial and employment matters. Ms. Lawrence-Hardy is a graduate of Spelman College and Yale Law School. She joined Sutherland in 1997 after clerking for Judge Susan Black of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and was promoted to partner in 2004. She was chair of the firm’s diversity committee for eight years, the longest-serving member of the firm’s hiring committee, and the youngest member of the firm’s executive committee. She was the founder and architect of the Sutherland Scholars program.
Mr. Bundy worked closely with Ms. Lawrence-Hardy as a partner in Sutherland’s Business and Commercial litigation team and the firm’s Labor and Employment team, handling a wide variety of commercial litigation matters that spanned the spectrum of litigation areas, including labor and employment, real estate, government contracts, privacy law, product liability and insurance coverage disputes. A graduate of Towson University and Howard Law School, Mr. Bundy joined Sutherland in 2000 and was promoted to partner in 2007. He also served on the firm’s diversity and hiring committees.
“Our new platform allows us to deliver the product that clients want. We have the skill set to deliver the great results that our clients expect, and now we have the ability to be more responsive to clients’ needs, to provide more innovative solutions, to take on more complex matters on terms that make it a win-win,” Mr. Bundy said.
“We also have the opportunity to grow and develop talent in a way that prepares them to be the next generation of leaders in our profession,” he continued. “Our young lawyers will develop based on their growth and contributions – not on a strict lockstep schedule – but on a schedule tailored to their talents and abilities.”
“My time on Sutherland’s executive committee provided me with a bird’s eye view of the changing market,” says Ms. Lawrence-Hardy. “We launched Lawrence & Bundy to fill a void in the market to respond to what large clients increasingly desire. We are excited about the opportunity to put a new product in the market that is more innovative and responsive to what clients need and want from their outside lawyers.
“This firm is the fulfillment of our vision to create a better alternative. It is exciting to join with others who share that vision with the same energy and passion, giving me the confidence that this path will be a successful endeavor for us, our clients, and our profession,” she continued. “Additional prominent attorneys will be joining us very soon in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., and we expect to continue to bring talented lawyers on board who are or want to be leaders in the profession, leaders in serving clients in a dynamic way.”
Ms. Lawrence-Hardy is regularly featured in a range of “best of” and “who’s who” lists. Most recently, she was recognized as a Georgia Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation, selected for inclusion among The National Black Lawyers organization’s “Top 100” in Business Labor and Employment Law and named on Savoy magazine’s “Most Influential Black Lawyers in the U.S.” She was also selected as “Attorney of the Month” in the January 2015 edition of Attorney at Law magazine and has regularly been included in The Best Lawyers in America, Chamber’s USA: Guide to Leading Business Lawyers and Georgia Super Lawyers. Ms. Lawrence-Hardy is a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, which is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society and represents less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellows are selected based upon excellence and accomplishments in litigation, trial work and superior ethical reputation.
Mr. Bundy has been recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award from the DC Diverse Partner Network, the Legal Elite Award from Washington SmartCEO Magazine, the Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the Bar Association for the District of Columbia, the Star of the Quarter Award from the American Bar Association, the Disability Rights Section Award for Excellence from the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, and the Top D.C. Lawyer Award from the Washington Business Journal.
Mr. Bundy and Ms. Lawrence-Hardy will continue their commitment to public service at Lawrence & Bundy. Mr. Bundy is a founding member of the D.C. Bar Foundation’s Young Lawyers Network and serves on the D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility. He is a former fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and former chair of the Young Lawyer Section of the District of Columbia Bar. Ms. Lawrence-Hardy is an active community volunteer who has served on the boards of the Zoo Atlanta, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, the Atlanta Girls’ School, Saint Anne’s Day School, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Like Mr. Bundy, she is a bar leader, having served as a member of the leadership of the ABA Section of Litigation, the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors, and as President of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
